Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment used to relieve symptoms of the menopause. As your ovaries gradually stop working, they produce less of the hormones estrogen & progesterone. The loss of these hormones can have a big impact on your body. Hormone therapy can treat common menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes and vaginal discomfort. However, this is not a one-size-fits-all treatment! Read more to see if HRT is right for you.

What is the hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone therapy works by supplementing oestrogen alone or in combination with progesterone. Across the world, many women have benefitted from hormone therapy, which has helped them lead healthy, productive lives post-menopause. HRT doesn’t just improve menopause symptoms. It has also been proven to improve bone health & prevent fractures.
HRT, however, is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. We conduct a detailed assessment to evaluate your need for HRT. Normally, we start hormone treatment with the minimal dose, and gradually increase the dosage as needed.

Is hormone therapy right for me?

HRT has helped millions of women overcome menopause symptoms & lead healthy, productive lives. However, there are also risks associated with hormone treatments. These risks depend on your health status & risk factors, the type of hormone therapy, dose, and how long the medication is taken. Getting HRT has to be a very personalised choice, based on your needs and potential risk factors. At Adrita, we tailor hormone therapy to each person and re-evaluate regularly to ensure the benefits still outweigh the risks.

You should seriously consider going for Hormone Therapy if:

Potential risks & side effects of HRT you should consider

Menopause describes the stage of your life when your menstrual periods stop permanently, and you can no longer become pregnant. You are in menopause when you've gone 12 months without a period.

As you get older - in your 40s and 50s - your body produces less of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Your periods happen less often and eventually stop, and your ovaries stop producing eggs. The decline in your hormone levels can lead to physical and emotional symptoms associated with menopausal transition.

Menopause usually occurs between 45 to 55 years of age. Among Indian women, the average age for menopause in India is 46.6 years. The transition to menopause - the period during which your hormones gradually decline - can last between 4 to 10 years.
