Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment used to relieve symptoms of the menopause. As your ovaries gradually stop working, they produce less of the hormones estrogen & progesterone. The loss of these hormones can have a big impact on your body. Hormone therapy can treat common menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes and vaginal discomfort. However, this is not a one-size-fits-all treatment! Read more to see if HRT is right for you.

Period Problems

The hormonal changes in your 40s can affect your cycle, leading to irregular or missed periods, worsening PMS and more. Period problems can be a sign of a natural progression of your body, but that does not mean they should not be addressed. If you are 35 and older, and experiencing period problems, it does not necessarily mean you are starting menopause. Period problems can be a sign of something else too. Whatever it is, these problems can be treated and we can take steps to manage symptoms depending on the nature and cause of the issue.

Sexual Health Concerns

The changes in your hormones during menopause can have an impact on your intimacy too. On the one hand, it is great to be free from periods, and the risk of an unplanned pregnancy! But the loss of estrogen can lead to physical & mental changes that can impact your sexual function. More than one in three women in perimenopause, or menopause, report having sexual difficulties, from lack of interest in sex to trouble having an orgasm. But menopause does not have to mean an end to your sex life!

Bone & Joint Health

Women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis and broken bones, especially as they grow older. Women tend to have smaller, thinner bones than men. As you reach menopause, the decrease in estrogen hormone can affect your bone health as well. For some women the bone loss during menopause is rapid and severe. It is important to be proactive in taking care of your bones & joints by eating healthy and staying active. Hormone treatments, or HRT, doesn’t just help with menopausal symptoms, it can also help prevent bone loss.
